Lavender Plants
Lavender plants in four inch pots. These lavender plants are propagated on our farm from cuttings of mature plants. We typically have the following types available in the spring: Grosso (French Lavender), Hidecote Giant, Hidecote, Beuna Vista and Folgate (English Lavenders). The French Lavender plants spikes have a higher oil content and more fragrance than the English varieties. The English Lavenders are typically more hardy and smaller with more brilliant blooms on the spikes than the French varieties. The English Lavender blooms can also be dried and used as culinary lavender.
Lavender requires full sun and well drained neutral to slightly alkaline soil with little to no fertilizer to grow. Lavender is very susceptible to root rot. It is important to have well drained soil and not to overwater the plants. Lavender plants should be pruned after they are finished flowering in late August or September. This keeps the plant shaped, compact and healthy. When pruning cut above the woody part of the plant and let a layer of new growth. Lavender plants take three years to mature and can live up to 17 years.
